Hardened & tempered plastic mould between 290-320 HB

To increase the service life of mould up to 800,000 times, you may harden the pre-hardened steel by means of quenching and low-temperature tempering. For quenching , firstly preheat for 2-4 hours under 500-600°C and then maintain the temperature at 850-880°C for a period of time (at least 2 hours). Put the steel into the oil for cooling for 50-100°C for air cooling. After quenching, the hardness may be high up to 50-52 HRC. To avoid crack, please immediately carry out low-temperature tempering treatment at 200°C. After tempering, the hardness may be kept over 48 HRC.

The nitriding treatment may be provide a surface structure of high hardness. After nitriding, the surface hardness may reach 650-700 HV (approx. 57-60 HRC) and the service life of the mould may be up to 1,000,000 times. The nitrided zone features in compact and smooth structure, while the parting property, resistance to wet air and resistance to alkali corrosion will be highly enhanced for the mould.

Invar 36 is a nickel-iron alloy possessing a rate of thermal expansion approximately one-tenth that of carbon steel at temperatures up to 400°F (204°C). Good humidity (corrosion) rating.
Applications where dimensional change due to temperature variation must be minimised — radio and electronic devices, aircraft controls, optical and laser systems; also used with high-expansion alloys in bimetallic thermostats and temperature regulators.
For optimal dimensional stability: heat to 1500°F (815°C), hold one hour, then air cool. Annealing: heat to 1450°F (790°C), hold 30 minutes per inch of thickness, then air cool.
